Falaise St Jacques Birder's Blog

 I went today on a regular walk in the Falaise, filling up the bird feeders, taking some bird photos, and reporting to eBird. On the way back from the Falaisosaur I picked up some garbage that was left near the Fat Tire and added this to the collection at the Central Access Road. Passing through the Skateboard Park I wasn't sure if we should consider the orange traffic cones as garbage or not.  I decided to leave them for now. Continuing East I took a current photo of the New Hillside Garbage Dump that someone created in Nov 2021.   A more interesting installation, entitled "Growth" is just a little further along the path.  It was done just this past winter. However I was in luck!!!  Immediately above the Growth Art Installation I could see a new work in progress.   Hurrying back uphill to see who was doing this I found the front end loader parked at the new dump site location behind Sean Automotive.         On Saturday some members of the MBC joined a number of other urban cyclists at the corner of Roy and St Denis to pay homage to a revolutionary in urban cycling, Bob Silverman.   He was one of the founders of le Monde à Bicyclette.   It was thanks to his political ideology of social justice and his vivid imagination that the idea of cycling as part of the Montreal urban lifestyle took hold.   He along with Claire Morisette set Montreal on the path to becoming a more human place, regaining automobile space for human activities.  Les voitures tuent plus que les guerres      Samedi certains membres de la MBC se sont joints à un nombre d’autres cyclistes au coin de Roy et de St Denis pour rendre hommage à un révolutionnaire du cyclisme urbain, Bob Silverman.  Il est l’un des fondateurs du Monde à Bicyclette.   C’est grâce à son idéologie politique de justice sociale et à son imagination vive que l’idée de faire du vélo dans le cadre du mode de vie urbain montréalais s’est imposée.  

 After a long winter we were keen to do some cycling.  Meeting at the Presse Cafe Louis & A.T. (W.G. came by foot unprepared to ride) the two set out on what was for them the first ride of the year.    It wasn't a long ride, just over to rue St Denis. That afternoon, A.T. went to the Falaise to fill the bird feeders.  He reported the American Goldfinches are back as well as a new sighting (for him) of Common Redpoll.   It seems that someone is tapping trees for (Maple ?) Syrup.
